Alongside the election for the Norfolk Police and Crime Commissioner, voters in two parts of South Norfolk will have the opportunity to vote for two excellent Liberal Democrats in by-elections. The circumstances are in one case very sad, and in the other, somewhat comical.
It is always sad when a Councillor dies in office, and the death only a few weeks ago of Cllr Stephen Ridley, District Councillor for Bunwell shocked Councillors across the political spectrum. However, life goes on, and the Liberal Democrats have selected experienced campaigner Trevor Wenman to contest the now vacant seat.
Trevor has lived in Norfolk for nearly 30 years. A former two-time Mayor of Diss, he was also Clerk to the Parish Council in nearby New Buckenham until 2021.
The other by-election is for the North Ward of Wymondham Town Council to fill a vacancy caused by the last remaining Conservative Town Councillor resigning, suddenly, in the middle of a Town Council meeting. Stephen Witt is the Liberal Democrat contesting this vacancy. Stephen has every intention of taking his role more seriously than his predecessor.
