South Norfolk Lib Dems show their support for LGBT+ communities
South Norfolk Liberal Democrats successfully brought a motion to District Council to urge councillors to support the flying of the Pride rainbow flag in the lead up to Norwich Pride held on Saturday 25 July.
Cllr Suzanne Nuri-Nixon from South Wymondham ward presented the motion, calling on councillors from all sides to join the Lib Dems and pledge their support to fly the flag, something the Reform-led County Council have banned.
Cllr Nuri-Nixon said ‘It sends a clear message to the LGBT+ communities in our district that they are seen, acknowledged and have strong support, unlike County Council where one of their first decisions was to ban the flying of the Pride flag. The flag represents hope to many who still live with the fear of harassment, prejudice and hate because of who they are. Equality hurts no-one.’
Other councillors also spoke in favour of the motion and it was unanimously passed by all councillors present.
